The Best Places to Eat Brunch In Worcester

The Best Places to Eat Brunch In Worcester

As a student, living on a budget, something that is widely considered non-essential is treating yourself to brunch. Something I wasn’t too pleased about when beginning my student lifestyle. Why, just because our money is tight, should we give up what I’d argue is the most important meal of the day?

After three years of living and studying in Worcester, I have found a way to incorporate brunch into an unreasonably tight and unwavering budget. Below are just a few of my favourite spots to enjoy without breaking the bank.Read more

Christmas In Worcester

Christmas In Worcester

Despite this year dragging because of a certain pandemic, time fails to stop. Christmas and the New Year are fast approaching and I, for one, am determined to try and enter 2021 as festive as possible.

I am definitely a Christmassy person, the kind you’ll find with their decorations up a week or two before its socially acceptable. I love the atmosphere in Worcester this time of year, the lights around the city and Cathedral with everyone drinking slightly too much rum at the Christmas markets and coming home with things you don’t really remember deciding to buy.

2020 has been completely unprecedented, a year a lot of us are definitely ready to leave behind. However, we still have one more month to try and enjoy! So, despite our city being in Tier 2, I have a few local recommendations to try and save Christmas from the Grinch that has been corona.

Café Afloat

This café is an absolute gem, tucked away in Worcester, hidden in the waterways of Diglis. Café Afloat serves delicious coffee from aboard a narrow boat. The hot chocolate comes towering with marshmallows, the scones are served hot with mountains of thick cream and the bacon sandwiches smell and taste incredible.

Making the walk to this café is worth it to sit in the tranquillity of the setting on the benches outside the front, surrounded by the other boats bobbing on the canal. Alternatively, if it is too chilly to sit outside, take the short, two-minute walk down to the river. You can drink your coffee as you wander back towards the Cathedral and city centre.

Neighbourhood Deli

This incredible deli has kept us sane throughout lockdown with its weekly Doughnut Dash and delivery of incredible artisan goodies (if you haven’t already checked out their website for some delicious treats, I recommend doing that now).

Opening back up on Wednesday, the Neighbourhood Deli is ready to treat us to Christmas hampers, freshly baked sourdough and incredible sandwiches that will keep you warm this winter.

Having only been open a year, and that year being the year of 2020, this amazing independent deserves your love this festive season.

The Commandery

The Commandery offers a peacefulness that is otherwise hard to find so close to Cathedral Square. I would definitely recommend following their Instagram for regular updates on the home baked treats they are offering each day; the towers of brownies and cookies are always difficult to resist!

During tier two, The Commandery has opened back up for indoor seating. Something I am grateful for in the December chill! For those of you who are brave enough to embrace the cold, there are also benches outside the front or have your coffee to go and wander down towards Diglis. Alternatively, turn right out of the Commandery gates and find a quiet path, nestled between houses, to wander along the canal and eat your brownies in peace.

Bar Twenty Three

Undoubtedly one of my favourite spots to eat in Worcester and I am, unashamedly, working my way through their menu. The tacos and nachos are just incredible, the dirty fries are to die for and I think I’ve now tried, and can easily recommend, all of the small bites on offer.

Bar Twenty Three is opening ready for festive bookings from Wednesday the 2nd and has enough, incredible food on the menu to constitute many substantial meals to please Boris.

Undoubtedly, Christmas is the most important time of year for supporting local businesses and all the independents that make Worcester unique. Corona has made this year particularly tough. Lets offer them a helping hand this December, shopping and eating local before we can finally say goodbye to 2020.
